Why does the app return to the Apple watch face after a while?

This is the default behavior of the Apple Watch to return to the Apple watch face after a period of time. You can change this behavior from the Apple Watch app on the iPhone. Select General > Activate on Wrist Raise > Resume Previous Activity.

Why doesn’t the watch app display the current time like on the iPhone?

At the moment Apple forbids watch apps that show the time. We are hoping Apple will change their policy on this. We agree it would make the watch app more informative. For now the watch app can only show the time from the 12 o’clock position to the sunset or sunrise events.

Why does the app need to know my location.

The app uses the location to calculate the sunrise and sunset events and to correctly show the positions of the sun and moon.

What is civil, nautical and astronomical twilight?

These are various degrees of darkness depending on how far the sun is below the horizon. Civil twilight is the time just after sunset and before sunrise where there is enough light to see. Nautical twilight is where there is still enough light to view the horizon but not enough to see details. Astronomical twilight is considered dark but may not be dark enough for viewing astronomical objects.
